About Mithali Raj
Mithali Raj captained the India women's cricket team for more than ten years and, when she retired in 2022, held the record for the most runs in women's international cricket, past 10,000 across formats. She is the only woman to have captained India in two ICC Women's Cricket World Cup finals, in 2005 and 2017.
She has received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, the Padma Shri and the Arjuna Award, and the 2022 Hindi biopic Shabaash Mithu brought her career to a wider public. She played through the period when women's cricket in India moved from sparse facilities and little coverage to the Women's Premier League, and she was its most visible figure for most of that time.
She speaks in English, Hindi, Telugu or Tamil, in a measured, thoughtful register. Her talk covers building a sport over two decades with limited support, the particular craft of captaining in long formats, longevity and discipline, and what visibility means for the next generation of players. Leadership offsites, women's day programmes and investor audiences get a speaker who has led a team through its whole institutional growth, not just one season.
