India's 1983 World Cup-winning captain, speaking in plain Hindi on belief, pressure and leading a team

Kapil Dev captained India to its first Cricket World Cup title in 1983, the win that changed how the country saw itself in the sport. A fast-bowling all-rounder, he retired with 434 Test wickets, then the world record, and was named Wisden's Indian Cricketer of the Century. His unbeaten 175 against Zimbabwe in that 1983 tournament remains one of the most retold innings in Indian cricket.
He led India in 34 Tests, later had a short spell as national coach, and has since built a public life across business, broadcasting and public speaking. The Government of India has honoured him with the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan.
On stage he speaks in simple, direct Hindi and does not dress things up. His themes are leadership when the odds are against you, building belief across a whole squad rather than in one star, and the lessons from 1983 that every Indian captain since has lived with. For a sales force, a dealer network or a large staff gathering, he brings the kind of presence that fills a room before he says a word. English and Punjabi are also available.
