About Bajrang Punia
Bajrang Punia is an Indian freestyle wrestler in the 65 kg category. He won bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and has medals from the World Wrestling Championships, the Asian Games, the Asian Championships and the Commonwealth Games. He has received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and the Padma Shri.
He comes from Haryana's wrestling tradition, where the akhara is part of village life, and his career is a product of that system. In 2023 and 2024 he was among the leading figures in the Indian wrestlers' protest against the then administration of the Wrestling Federation of India, which placed him in a public role well beyond the mat.
He speaks in Hindi, with English as needed. His talk covers how an Olympic cycle is actually planned, how weight and recovery are managed over years, and what responsibility an athlete carries once the public starts listening. For a sports-themed sales kickoff, a wellness programme or a national day event he brings a plain-spoken account of discipline that a Haryana and Hindi-belt audience, in particular, connects with immediately.
