Babita Phogat is a freestyle wrestler from Haryana and the daughter of coach Mahavir Singh Phogat. She won gold in the 55 kg category at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and silver at the 2010 Delhi Games, and has medalled at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships and the Asian Wrestling Championships. She has been awarded the Arjuna Award.
The 2016 film Dangal took the Phogat family's story to every corner of India: a father in rural Haryana who trained his daughters for international wrestling when the village expected nothing of the kind. Babita was at the centre of that experiment, and she has remained a public figure in Indian wrestling since.
Her sessions are told from inside the family. She speaks in Hindi, with English where needed, about what it took to train as a girl in Charkhi Dadri, how long-horizon coaching works when the coach is also your parent, and how the mental side of wrestling carries over into careers, teams and raising children. She suits women's day programmes, school and college events, and sales teams that want a story about persistence from someone who lived it.
