Poet, lyricist and actor whose live recitations make Hindi verse feel urgent again

Piyush Mishra trained at the National School of Drama and has worked across theatre, poetry, film acting and music direction. He wrote the lyrics for Anurag Kashyap's Gulaal and Gangs of Wasseypur and acted in both, and audiences also know him from Rockstar and Tamasha. His songs and readings of his own Hindi poetry are shared widely online.
He is one of the few working film artists whose primary medium is still the written and spoken word. His writing moves between the personal and the political, and his songs for cinema carry the same literary weight as his stage poetry. He speaks on the craft of writing lyrics for film and on where theatre, cinema and music meet.
A Piyush Mishra evening is part performance, part conversation. He recites, sings a little, tells stories from theatre and film sets, and offers unfiltered views on culture and public life. He suits literature festivals, college fests and corporate cultural nights where the organiser wants substance rather than a celebrity wave. He performs in Hindi with English where needed.
