About Boman Irani
Boman Irani came to cinema late. He ran his family's wafer business, worked as a photographer and performed in theatre for years before Rajkumar Hirani cast him as Dr Asthana in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003), when he was in his forties. He went on to Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Don, 3 Idiots as Principal Virus Sahastrabuddhe, PK, Happy New Year and Sanju.
He has worked in international projects and has kept up a theatre practice through productions with Mahesh Dattani and Rahul da Cunha. In 2025 he made his directorial debut with The Mehta Boys. Each stage of his career began when most people would have settled, which is why the reinvention theme in his talks carries weight.
On stage he is funny, precise and generous with stories from Hirani's sets and from his years behind a camera. He speaks in Hindi, English and Gujarati about late starts, second careers, what theatre teaches a screen actor, and how photography trained him to see. Leadership offsites, founder's day events and award nights get a speaker whose own career is the clearest answer to anyone wondering if it is too late to change direction.
